This chapter gives a basic introduction to weather and weather forecasting, including general movement of air masses, warm, cold, and occluded fronts, barometric pressure, temperature, cloud types and characteristics, and weather map symbols. Numerous tables include the Beaufort wind force scale, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale, wind chill, cold water survival time, heat index, air pressure unit conversion, temperature conversion (Celsius to Fahrenheit), and humidity to dew point.
